Raised garden beds, deeper root systems. To be fair you don't have to put worm castings throughout the depth of your bed. You also don't have to top off your gas tank every time you drive. But why feel like a loser? The below numbers represent 30% concentration of worm castings in pounds (lbs):

Application Instructions

STEP ONE: Already Done

You got the idea to use worm castings for bigger, better plants and vegetables...this step should be self-explanatory since it brought you here!

Now remember that you cannot overuse worm castings (in other words, feel free to buy plenty of extra).

STEP TWO: How Much Do I Need?

If your garden has an average tilling depth of 4-6 in, we recommend ¾ lb for every square foot. This leaves 30% concentration in the soil, which is 100% ideal.

For instance, let’s say you have 400 square feet to cover. We would recommend 300 lbs of worm castings. (Remember, all orders over 100 lbs come with a sweet farm direct discount!)

STEP THREE: How to Apply

When applying, one single handful is roughly 1/10th of a lb.

Two handfuls are about ¼ of a lb (with two hands you can cup extra). If you really do have 400 square feet to cover, that will take 1,200 double handfuls – think about plants, not work…unless you enjoy it!

When applying, don’t just sprinkle the worm castings onto existing dirt. Really work the worm castings into the soil. Again, it's very important that you do not till first then spread later. Definitely spread the castings BEFORE you till them into the soil.

For people who can't till their entire garden, you should mix the castings in a 1'- 1.5' radius around each plant stem. Remember, the more contact your plant's roots have with the castings, the stronger your results will be.

STEP FOUR: Celebrate a Job Well Done

Again, pretty self-explanatory.

Watch those plants get BIGGER and BETTER.

REMINDER: Worm Tea Is an Omnipotent Gardening Force

Try our recipe for making worm tea. Many of our customers use this in order to achieve excellent results. One customer from Illinois sprayed his fruit trees with worm tea all summer and ended up with plums the size of apples! Gardeners should try this application on their vegetables, and if you DO have fruit trees but don't have a garden, you can still give it a surefire shot and reap the benefits.
